data-start="1448" data-end="1508">And it isn’t because you’re weak, lazy, or “doing it wrong”.

The problem with “rest” as we usually imagine it

Most people think rest is physical.

Lie down.
Sleep.
Stop working.

But for a lot of high-functioning people, the real exhaustion isn’t physical at all.

It’s mental.

When the mind remains alert, scanning, processing, planning — the body may stop, but the system doesn’t.

That’s why:

You rest but don’t feel restored

You take time off but feel strangely agitated

Your nervous system never truly disengages from responsibility.

Why you’re tired even when you’re not doing much

One of the biggest misunderstandings about fatigue is this:

Energy is drained more by mental load than by data-end="2289">

Holding many things in mind at once

Being the “reliable one”

Keeping everything running smoothly

None of this looks dramatic from the outside.
But internally, it keeps your brain switched on for long periods of time.

Even when you “rest”, your mind continues working in the background.

“But my blood tests are normal”

Which is incredibly frustrating — because the fatigue is real.

What’s often missing is an understanding of mental exhaustion without collapse.

You can be:

<li pushing through for years, your brain has learned something important:

Being alert keeps things safe and
